Lonely Christmas Eve

As I sit here on Christmas Eve
Waiting for my family to arrive,
I recall the many times before...
The days when you were alive.

Those Christmas eves of years ago
When my circle was complete,
Having my family together
Was my very special treat.

And when the feast was over
And the dishes were all done,
We'd open all our presents
One by one.

The carols that we sang
The fun had by all,
Reading the Christmas Carol...
Each year was my call.

But now those days are over
For there's an empty chair,
Just beneath the surface
There's sadness in the air.

My circle now is broken
My heart lays open wide,
For my beloved Melissa
Is on the other side.

She traveled far
And all alone,
She was our first
To be called Home.

I miss her so
More every day,
She's now with God
And so I pray.

For love and understanding
To accept what now must be,
And with God's help we'll make it through
Another lonely Christmas Eve.
